airborne chest chute pack(RESERVE)
-
The T5 reserve had a twenty-two foot diameter canopy until mid 1942 when the T5A with twenty-four foot diameter replaced it. The early T5 reserve is quickly identified by flap extensions of the container that served for carrying. These flaps had a vertical web strap on the back through which the belly band passed. Later versions deleted these flaps, the web straps were moved to the center and a carry loop was added on the right side.
In mid 1943, carry loops were sewn to both sides and the top. These additions were doubtlessly required when too many people reached to pick up a reserve pack and grabbed the wrong handle.
